PEARA Reef Structure to expand

THE PEARA REEF

Peara Marine Technology ™ create structures that are scientifically and ecologically designed to restore and sustain biodiversity along the coastlines of Aotearoa and the Pacific. The vision is to provide restorative solutions to freshwater and marine environments that have been negatively impacted by climatic events, infrastructure development, human impact and pollutants.

GROWING OUR FUTURE

Peara structures create habitat and refuge for native species, with the ability to grow macro algae, capture carbon and encourage abundance of biodiversity that once existed. Creating opportunity for a remedy in real time as infrastructure is developed in or around the water ensures that life that naturally exists within the freshwater and marine environment is sustained and protected.

With the power to encourage sea life to grow, congregate and regenerate the aquatic ecosystem – Peara is paving the way in marine technology.

YOUR WAI IS OUR WAY

Aotearoa and the Pacific have unique freshwater and marine biological heritage, and we are currently facing unprecedented pressures.

Matauranga Maori plays a critical role in the decision making around freshwater and marine environments in Aotearoa and ensures the symbiotic relationship between people and the natural environment is sustained. This will inform current and future research and the subsequent development of restorative work.
Kaitiakitanga is at the heart of the system. Peara Marine Technology creates opportunity for research of the natural ecosystems, and data that will create opportunity for regeneration of biodiversity and ecosystems which have suffered due to climatic weather events, climate change and pollution.

Installation of Peara Marine technology will enable the enhancement of freshwater and marine environments through encouraging new life, triggering the growth of the Blue Economy, healthier water bodies, carbon sequestration and an evolution in marine infrastructure.

REGENERATING THE FUTURE

Peara Marine provides a foothold for life to grow in barren, sandy and silty marine environments that have little to no structure and positive alternatives for marine infrastructure development.

Through the introduction of Peara structures, ecosystems and aquatic life can regenerate and flourish. We describe this as ‘social housing’ underwater, where Peara will provide refuge for species that have had natural habitats smothered by sediment, mud and silt or where species need to have spaces creates while humanity develops and engineer’s environmental footprints.

Regenerative freshwater and marine structures are in their infancy in Aotearoa and the opportunities within it are significant with positive social, environmental, and economic outcomes being at the forefront. Peara systems are designed to regenerate and amplify aquaculture and restorative ambitions.

PEARA Moana Walls

The future of regenerative infrastructure is here. The environment that sustains us is under pressure, our water facing negative impacts of humanity, innovation is the only way to pave forward.

Peara Moana Walls create life and strength between land & water. The koru design of the Peara moana wall symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.

Made of low carbon marine concrete its shape conveys the idea of perpetual movement, with the inner coil reflecting the return to the point of origin. The rough surface optimal for the binding of native species, an area that provides refuge and space to grow.
